Purified Drinking Water

Most Americans don’t give purified drinking water a second thought. We turn a knob on a faucet and it flows, in most cases, for a minor amount of money. And, this is how life should be for everyone; pure, clean water at our fingertips. Water is an essential element for all life on earth. Having access to clean water is a basic human right under international law and U.N. declarations. However, lacking access to pure, clean water is not just a third-world problem. Even in the U.S. this access is not a guarantee!!!

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), at the beginning of last year, more than 30 million Americans were living in areas where water systems are violating safety rules and regulations. While most of us don’t pay huge amounts for access to purified drinking water, there are others that simply cannot afford to keep water flowing let alone have access to purified drinking water. Like we have seen so many times in the past, poor people and minority communities suffer a greater impact when situations involve environmental and climate issues.

How To Naturally Purify Your Own Drinking Water at Home

Presenting the Water Machine

Say, “hello,” to the world’s most eco-friendly water purifier. Say, “good riddance,” to tap water’s chlorine, fluoride, and all of the other harmful chemicals that leach into plastic bottles of water. Why pay for bottled water when you can purify your own and save hundreds a year?! For less than two cents a gallon, you can purify your own water in the comforts of your own home. Plus, while purifying your water at home, you will be saving the environment from more harmful plastic waste. Bonus!!!

Gravity ~ The Hardest Worker

After passing through the purifiers in the upper chamber, the water collects in the lower, three-gallon capacity chamber. Two cutting edge gravity purification elements accompany each Water Machine purchase. If you consume a gallon and a half of water each day, these two purification elements can last over 10 years filtering up to 6,000 gallons of water. Just think how much plastic wastes that equates to that won’t be going into the landfills or our oceans!!!

Environmentally Friendly

While helping to reduce plastic waste and save the environment, the Water Machine’s all glass water filtration system does not leave a metallic or plastic taste in your mouth. Also, a portion of all our sales go to non-profit organizations that help others get clean water, such as Water.org and charitywater.org, so every purchase helps more people than you may realize.

Dirty Water in the United States

While researching the need for this water machine, I began learning more and more about polluted, water right here in the USA. Virtually in our own backyards; not some third-world country thousands of miles away. I remember as a child going to my grandma’s house in the country. Her water was muddy and smelled like rotten eggs. I couldn’t understand why anyone would drink it, bathe in it or use it to wash their clothes. Yuck, Yuck, and more Yuck!!! While doing this research I discovered my grandma’s small country town still has filthy water!

Alabama

Lowndes County, Alabama, is one of the poorest counties in one of the poorest states and, like the county’s mostly African-American population, they wrestle with the legacy of slavery and systemized discrimination she wrestles with the legacy of slavery and systemized discrimination. Many of the county’s population live just down the road from the sharecroppers’ quarters where they were born.

Thousands of the county’s residents live with puddles of sewage collecting in their backyards. And, in most cases it is brimming with human feces. Whenever any one of the affected residents flushes their toilet, the waste travels through a 10-ft. pipe straight to their backyard. The local government won’t pay, or can’t afford to pay, to build the necessary infrastructure to connect them to proper wastewater-disposal lines. Thus, they are left to deal with the myriad problems caused by living in sewage that not only creates puddles in their backyards but bubbles back up into their showers and bathtubs.

A lack of proper sanitation in large part explains the pervasive allergies, asthma and heart problems running rampant throughout the county. A 2017 study of county residents found that an estimated 34{6240f97e29b4159de6ff78317e10f820a7e2f517694b3d1c4628c71d0a3ac8d8} of the population suffers from hookworm. A parasitic infection contracted by walking barefoot on soil contaminated by fecal matter. In addition to the respiratory and cardiac issues, another issue relating to this parasitic infection is slow development in children.

Kentucky

Residents of Martin County are still battling the remains of millions of gallons of toxic sludge from a giant run-off of coal-mining-by-products, full of arsenic and mercury, that leaked into the local riverway over two decades ago. Although the water bills have skyrocketed, the residents say the problem they call “fishy water” still hasn’t been fixed. The local residents continue to face liver and kidney damage, as well as increasing risks of developing cancer.

Michigan

In Flint, in order to save money, local officials risked the health and safety of an entire community. hey were betting on no one noticing the risks. But, they lost the bet. However, politicians and policymakers across the country are continuing to make these to make these types of wagers almost on a daily basis. Unfortunately, in these situations we often make comprises between the health of the general public and the cost of the project. Regrettably, the cost of the project is typically the winner and influences all future decisions for the project, no matter what happens to the people!

The Navajo Nation is a territory that extends across parts of Utah, New Mexico and Arizona and has more than 300,000 residents. Unknowingly, residents have been drinking and playing in water contaminated by runoff from uranium mining. Thus, making the water extremely hazardous. A striking number of the residents, including babies, show traces of uranium in their blood. Infections develop in those who dare to shower. Outside of the infectious diseases and cancers, contaminated water helps account for social decay. Residents are so desperate to find safe water, they routinely drive for hours to buy and store it. Some are even selling their plasma in order to afford safe water.

South Carolina

Intending to prevent rust-like build up in the water pipes, local Bamberg county officials added an untested chemical known as HaloSan to drinking water. Instead of achieving the desired rust-free pipes, this decision continues to leave residents dealing with massive instances of unexplained skin ailments.

Ongoing Crisis; But No Great Urgency

For those without access to safe water, it is an ongoing crisis. However, there is no great urgency to fix the problem being felt between the powers that be; neither the state capitals or Washington, D.C. Existing rules may be ignored and laws may be out of date, out of date and Laws may be out of date, but as an “issue” needing immediate attention, water never seems to rise to the top except when a special event like the Flint water crisis grabs hold of the public’s attention.

The lack of access to safe water is a public-health problem that must concern all of us. Access to safe water is vital to the survival of all living species. There is not one specific cause of unsafe water. The root cause of unsafe water varies from place to place. Old pipes are quietly poisoning entire cities with lead, manufacturing locations are leaking cancerous chemicals into waterways, uranium is oozing into groundwater from where it is being mined.

Reduced Life Expectancy and Lower IQs

The effects at the specific locations where the lead is poisoning, the cancerous chemicals are leaking, and the uranium is oozing are horrific. However, the effects downstream are eerily similar; severe health damage that worsens the burden of poverty and a tattered social safety net. Thus, significantly reducing life expectancy and reducing IQ scores.

To make matters worse, the odds are getting increasingly direr. In 2017, the American Society of Civil Engineers gave our nation’s drinking-water infrastructure a D rating. And, their assessment at that time showed the U.S. needs to invest $1 trillion in the next 25 years for upgrades to our nation’s water supply systems. The damage that will occur in the absence of water will cost a much higher price than the estimated $1 trillion investment. The Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act passed by President Biden in November 2021 is the first step in in the journey to heal our unsafe water crisis and prevent further damage.
